Treatment Center for Depression
Rehab for Depression
Most often people associate treatment centers with treating addiction, but often they don’t realize that there are treatment programs specifically designed for depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Additionally, there’s an assumption that people can only be treated if they also suffer from an addiction, but the good news is there is professional help for these debilitating mental illnesses as well. Research indicates that the best results come when both are treated concurrently, or dual diagnosis treatment.
Corner Canyon Recovery offers inpatient therapy for depression at our Utah rehabilitation center. Inpatient treatment for depression is clinically proven as one of the most effective treatment methods. These methods allow clients to be able to completely focus on recovery, create new support systems, overcome feelings of hopelessness and isolation, and learn healthy coping skills. Each of our mental health counselors at our depression treatment center is experienced in treating addiction and co-occurring disorders. This allows each client’s treatment plan to be completely customized and promotes personalized healing.
What Causes Depression?
Depression can exist with anxiety or other mental health conditions. This can be due to situational or biological factors, or in combination with external factors like drugs and alcohol. Substance abuse often causes co-occurring illnesses such as depression and anxiety that require dual-diagnosis treatment. These substances block the normal production of healthy brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, which can cause serious mental health issues.
Depression can be caused by many situational factors, but it can also be caused or exacerbated by genetic predisposition. Corner Canyon does Pharmacogenetic DNA testing, used primarily to determine which medications are appropriate for clients, but it also identifies if the MTHFR gene variant is present, and what the degree of impairment is. MTHFR is a genetic inability to process folic acid from the diet, and can cause Depression, Anxiety, insomnia, nerve pain, muscle pain, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, two kinds of cancer, and heart problems and stroke. Determining if this genetic variant is present enables us to intervene with Deplin and or L-methylfolate, to add biologically available folate, and correct or prevent the problems it can cause. Thirty to forty percent of the US population has some degree of impairment in this gene but awareness of it is not very high even with its significant connection to mental health. Corner Canyon is focused on assessment so that this kind of problem can be corrected, and this is just one example of the genetic influences on mental health, there are many others.
What Types Of Depression Are There?
Depression can be categorized into different types. Signs of Depression
Some common signs of depression include feelings of despair and hopelessness. Someone who suffers from this may feel disheartened, defeated, and depleted in their daily lives. Some people can find that their mental health issues have become so debilitating that they can no longer function normally. They might start neglecting their duties and obligations, have performance issues at work or school, be increasingly exhausted and lethargic, distance themselves from people, or isolate themselves altogether. The lack of motivation and drive overcomes them. This can result in panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, and other intense manifestations of their mental and emotional pain.
By following a well-designed depression treatment plan, Corner Canyon Recovery focuses on creating new support systems for individuals, so that they are no longer isolated and suffering. Each patient participates in multiple forms of therapy, including traditional talk therapy, trauma therapy, and family therapy. They can also benefit from experiential or recreational therapy, where they learn new life skills from participating in different kinds of activities throughout. In our treatment center for depression, we teach new coping skills to manage mental health issues thoroughly and holistically. We help each individual develop a new relationship with themselves based on self-love and self-acceptance, rather than the self-hatred and self-rejection.
- Weight loss or gain
- Impaired concentration and indecisiveness
- Becoming less interested in favorite activities
- Feelings of despair, worthlessness, or guilt
- Pulling away from family and friends
- Sleep disturbances
- Declining performance at work or school
